The Rebuilding of the Third Temple in Israel – What Will Make It Possible?

The Bible tells us that a Third Temple will one day stand in Jerusalem. Though it doesn’t give us the exact date, prophecy clearly shows that this temple will be central during the final years before Christ returns.

But let’s be honest: when we look at the current political and religious tension surrounding the Temple Mount, it feels almost impossible. The Islamic Dome of the Rock sits squarely on the site where the previous temples stood. The idea of rebuilding a Jewish temple there seems unthinkable without provoking a global firestorm.

So how could it happen? And when?

Let’s explore the most likely biblical and geopolitical scenario that could bring this prophecy to life—possibly very soon.

The Global Crisis That Opens the Door

A Sudden Conflict in the Middle East

The Bible speaks of a coming war involving nations like Persia (Iran), Gog (Russia), and others attacking Israel (Ezekiel 38–39). If this war breaks out, it could devastate the surrounding nations and create a massive power vacuum.

Whether it’s war, terrorism, or natural disaster, the Temple Mount’s current Islamic control could be disrupted or weakened. The aftermath of such a crisis would leave the world begging for peace.

A Peace Agreement with a Catch

Daniel 9:27 prophesies that a powerful figure will “confirm the covenant with many for one week”—a 7-year peace treaty. This person, known as the Antichrist, will appear as a global peacemaker, offering a solution to the chaos.

As part of this agreement, Israel is granted permission to rebuild the Temple and resume sacrificial worship. It may involve sharing the Temple Mount—turning it into a so-called “House of Prayer for All Nations.”

This aligns with Revelation 11:1-2, where John is told to measure the temple, but not the outer court, because it has been given to the Gentiles.

Rapid Rebuilding of the Temple

The Temple Institute in Jerusalem already has the blueprints, the garments, the utensils—even trained priests. All they need is the green light.

Once allowed, the Third Temple could rise within months, and Jewish sacrificial worship could resume for the first time in nearly 2,000 years.

The Great Betrayal

Halfway through the 7 years, the peacemaker shows his true identity.

The Antichrist enters the Holy of Holies and sets up the “abomination of desolation” (Matthew 24:15; 2 Thessalonians 2:4). He declares himself to be God.

This betrayal marks the start of the Great Tribulation, when believers will be persecuted, and God’s judgments will be poured out upon the earth.

Could It Happen Soon?

Absolutely. Here are real-world developments that point toward this scenario unfolding sooner than many think:

• Temple items are ready.
• Red heifers have been bred and are in Israel (Numbers 19 requirement).
• Global unrest is rising.
• A new world order is being openly discussed.
• Calls for a shared religious space on the Temple Mount are growing.

This isn’t fantasy. This is prophecy preparing to become reality.

What Should We Do?

Jesus warned us to “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come” (Matthew 24:42). Now is the time to:

• Stay spiritually awake.
• Stay in God’s Word.
• Encourage others to repent and follow Christ.
• Recognize the signs—but don’t fear them.

The Third Temple isn’t just about architecture—it’s a sign that we are very near the return of our King.

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed… who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God… so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.”

Has this great falling away already happened?

Many Bible scholars, watchmen, and believers believe the Great Falling Away is already in progress—or may have already happened in part—based on these signs:

EVIDENCE THE FALLING AWAY IS HAPPENING NOW OR HAS ALREADY OCCURRED:

1. Widespread Departure from Biblical Truth
   • Many churches no longer teach repentance, sin, or the exclusivity of Jesus for salvation.
   • Scripture is being reinterpreted to match culture, rather than culture being transformed by the Word.
2. Moral Decay Within Christianity
   • Acceptance of what the Bible calls sin (sexual immorality, pride, greed) is becoming normalized.
   • False doctrines such as the prosperity gospel, universalism, or “Jesus as just a good teacher” are on the rise.
3. Decline in Church Attendance and Faith
   • Western nations are seeing mass exodus from churches, especially among young people.
   • Many now identify as “spiritual but not religious,” or turn to New Age practices instead.
4. Rise of Apostate Movements
   • Some movements within Christianity openly reject the authority of the Bible while still claiming Christ.
   • Leaders once rooted in Scripture are now promoting interfaith unity at the expense of truth.

“The stage has already been set. We are all intently watching for the signing of a seven-year peace treaty with Israel and its neighboring Middle Eastern countries. This single event is the most prophetic indicator that the final seven-year period on Earth has begun.”
